GIS Institute at the University of Kentucky
The Kentucky GIS Institute is a five-day intensive training in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) for spatial data analysis and representation. Based upon the cutting-edge curricula of New Maps Plus, the Institute is held on the campus of the University of Kentucky in the computer classroom of the Department of Geography. Students are expected to come with a project in mind, with some experience in computing environments. No previous GIS or mapmaking experience is required. Students will learn the basics of desktop GIS (including QGIS and ArcGIS) as well as the use of web-based tools such as CARTO and FactFinder. The Institute culminates in a project review where each student presents their project for feedback.
